scienceMechanism of Action (How it works)

expand_more

Empha LM 25mg/5mg/1000mg Tablet is a combination of three medicines: empagliflozin, linagliptin, and metformin hydrochloride. Empagliflozin works by blocking a protein in the kidneys called SGLT2 (sodium-glucose cotransporter 2), which normally reabsorbs sugar back into the blood. Empagliflozin blocks this protein, allowing more sugar to be removed from the body through urine. Linagliptin inhibits the enzyme DPP-4 (dipeptidyl peptidase-4), which rapidly breaks down incretin hormones like GLP-1 and GIP that stimulate insulin release from the pancreas and suppress glucagon in a glucose-dependent manner, thereby helping to lower blood sugar levels after meals. Metformin hydrochloride reduces the amount of sugar produced by the liver and helps the body respond better to insulin. Together, they control blood sugar through multiple ways, leading to more stable glucose levels and reduced risk of complications related to type 2 diabetes.
