Question 1

What is Benoquin Cream used for?

Accepted Answer

Benoquin Cream is used only for permanent depigmentation of the skin in patients with widespread vitiligo that covers more than half of the body. It is not a cosmetic skin lightener and should never be used for freckles, melasma, or tanning spots.

Question 2

Can Benoquin Cream be used for cosmetic skin lightening?

Accepted Answer

No. Benoquin Cream is a strong depigmenting medicine, not a mild cosmetic bleach. Using it for skin lightening in people without vitiligo can cause permanent, uneven loss of skin color.

Question 3

Who should not use Benoquin Cream?

Accepted Answer

Individuals should not use Benoquin Cream if they are allergic to monobenzone or any of its ingredients, or if they want it only for cosmetic lightening. It is strictly for patients with extensive vitiligo.

Question 4

Can Benoquin Cream cause permanent skin changes?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Benoquin Cream often causes irreversible depigmentation. Once the pigment is lost, your skin may remain permanently white and extra sensitive to sunlight.

Question 5

What serious side effects should I watch for while using Benoquin Cream?

Accepted Answer

You should stop using Benoquin Cream and call your doctor if you develop severe irritation, burning, rashes, or eczema-like skin reactions. In some cases, areas far away from where the medicine was applied may also lose pigment permanently.

Question 6

Does Benoquin Cream increase sun sensitivity?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Once your skin is depigmented with Benoquin Cream, it will remain highly sensitive to sunlight for the rest of your life. You must use sunscreen regularly and protect your skin whenever you are outdoors.

Question 7

Can Benoquin Cream affect children?

Accepted Answer

The safety of Benoquin Cream has not been established in children under 12 years, so it should not be used in younger patients.

Question 8

Can Benoquin Cream spread its effects to areas where I do not apply it?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Even areas of normal skin far from the Benoquin Cream application site may become depigmented. The loss of color may be irregular, excessive, unsightly, and it is often permanent.

Question 9

How long does it take for Benoquin Cream to work?

Accepted Answer

The exact time Benoquin Cream takes to work is not known. However, depigmentation usually occurs within one to four months of treatment. If there is no improvement after four months, your doctor may stop the treatment.
