scienceMechanism of Action (How it works)

expand_more

Trifranil 25mg Tablet works by increasing the activity of serotonin, a natural chemical messenger in the brain that influences mood, thoughts, and behavior. It blocks the reuptake of serotonin into nerve cells, which helps keep more of it available between brain cells. This action helps reduce obsessive thoughts, lessen compulsive behaviors, ease anxiety from phobias, and improve mood in depression.

helpFrequently Asked Questions

What is Trifranil 25mg Tablet and what does it treat?

expand_more

Trifranil 25mg Tablet is a tricyclic antidepressant used to treat obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), phobic states, and depression (when sedation is helpful). It is often prescribed when obsessive thoughts, intense fears, or depressed mood interfere with daily life.

How long before I notice improvement?

expand_more

Some people may notice early improvements in a few weeks, but meaningful benefit for OCD or depression often takes 6–12 weeks, and full effects can take longer. Steady drug levels may take 1–3 weeks after dose changes. Continue taking it for as long as prescribed and do not stop it suddenly.

How should I take it?

expand_more

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribes. Treatment usually starts at a low dose and is increased gradually to reduce side effects. Take doses with meals if advised; this will help reduce upset stomach. Take it at the same time each day and ensure to attend all follow-up visits so your doctor can review your dose and response.

Are there any serious risks I should know about?

expand_more

Yes. Trifranil 25mg Tablet may cause seizures, heart rhythm problems, and can increase suicidal thoughts in young people early in treatment. Do not use it with MAO inhibitors or within 14 days of stopping them due to the risk of life-threatening serotonin syndrome. Get urgent help for new suicidal thoughts, fainting, chest pain, severe heartbeat changes, or signs of serotonin syndrome like high fever, stiff muscles, or confusion.
